Distribution

 Its native range covers a large portion of the western Atlantic Ocean stretching from Nova Scotia, the entire coastline of the Gulf of Mexico, and down to Argentina.  However, in modern times the blue crab’s range has expanded beyond its native confines to the Baltic sea, Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea, North Sea, and Japanese waters presumably via ballast water of transoceanic vessels.
